Word of success spread! BackWerk opened its doors in February 2001 as the first self-service bakery ever. Shortly after, further branches followed along the Rhine and Ruhr rivers. Since then, aspiring entrepreneurs have accelerated growth throughout Germany and Europe as franchise partners. Our concept has evolved from a purely self-service bakery to a leading bakery-café, encompassing both our product range and store design and service. Since 2017, BackWerk has been part of the convenience and food service provider Valora. Sebastian Kayser, Managing Director of the Valora Food Service Germany market unit, is responsible for the management of BackWerk.
