Kayu Living started with a feeling more than a business plan.
On a trip to Indonesia we fell for the way things were made there — slowly, by hand, by people who had clearly done it a thousand times and still cared about the thousand-and-first. Nothing was perfect, and that was exactly the point. Each piece carried the marks of the person who made it.
Coming back to Scandinavia, we couldn't shake the contrast. So much of what we're surrounded by here is clean, calm, and beautifully restrained — but also a little anonymous, a little disposable. We kept thinking: what if you could have both? The soul of Indonesian craft and the quiet simplicity of Scandinavian design, in pieces actually built to last.
