Muhréns Sliperi – Tradition and history in Gothenburg

In 1949, Karl Muhrén started sharpening knives, scissors, shovels and lawn mowers. At that time, people walked around the houses in the evenings and collected things that needed sharpening. Then they worked all day in the workshop down town to be able to deliver the knives and scissors the very next evening.

Karl Muhrén started the slipmill as a complement to his bike and tent rental to have something to work with during the winter months when the bike and tent rental had a low season.

Karl's son Lennart took over the business from his father and Lennart's son Eibert started working in the workshop as a 15-year-old. In 2013, Eibert and his little sister Annette took over the entire business and father Lennart then retired.

On Christmas Eve 2023, Christoffer Ek received an article from GP sent to him from a friend, The article was about the old grinding mill in Gothenburg that would have had to close if someone did not want to take over. Already the next open day, Christoffer was on site and expressed his desire to take over Muhréns Sliperi and in February it was decided that it was precisely Christoffer who would take over the baton and run the grinding mill further.

For three months, he had to work as an apprentice under Eibert and Annette Muhrén and then, on July 1, 2024, take over the premises, machines and techniques to pass on the craft.

Today, Muhréns Sliperi is run by Christoffer, but the techniques that the Muhrén family has developed live on.
