About us
Humanistic, ecological and existential
The company and the Norrgavel brand were registered in 1991 by Nirvan Richter, an architect from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and trained in cabinetmaking at Carl Malmsten School. His interest in furniture and furniture makers was awakened early on, and as a newly graduated architect in the 80s, he soon realized that he wanted to learn more about furniture, the craft of carpentry and the art of creating good home environments. Nirvan perceived the Swedish architectural world of the time as being tightly controlled by modernism and experienced interior architecture as something of a free zone. The desire to start furniture manufacturing grew stronger and stronger during the late 80s and early 90s. A strong driving force that was fueled by his desire to manufacture the furniture he himself lacked on the market.
