About us
Since 1969 in the Heart of Trastevere
In the 1960s, Marcello Forti decided to leave Busci, a town in the province of L'Aquila, and come to Rome, seeking new career prospects. Initially, he worked in various jobs, always in the restaurant industry, from dishwasher to waiter to kitchen assistant. In the late 1960s, he had the opportunity to purchase the bar, which had been up for sale by the previous management.
Initially, it was just a shuttered shop with a haberdashery next door. Then, as things were going well and the interior space was needed, when the haberdashery decided to close, Marcello jumped at the chance to expand. Now, even on cold days, you can enjoy drinks in the interior room filled with paintings and souvenirs created by the many Bar San Calisto lovers.

I stopped at Bar San Calisto on my first day in Rome. I had a double espresso at the counter. It was delicious, and the service was fantastic.
