A wise person once said, ‘life is like a noodle’. twisty and tangled. sometimes smooth, sometimes not. long (hopefully), complex and adaptable. it’s a nice metaphor, and also a reminder of where we came from
after travelling around japan, our founder alan yau became captivated by the ramen bars of tokyo. the speed, the energy. the sense of togetherness. these places were doing something different, something you didn’t see in the uk. they were serving fresh food fast, all prepared by hand and brought out as soon as it’s ready, placed in front of people from all walks of life, sat shoulder to shoulder around communal benches. in 1992, he brought that exact same experience to london’s bloomsbury, with the very first wagamama. at a time when quick food in the uk often meant something beige and deep fried, we offered something different: open kitchens with nowhere to hide, fresh ingredients cooked to order and balanced bowls designed to nourish as much as satisfy. and over 30 years later - while we’ve grown far beyond that first restaurant - that original spirit still shapes everything we do
